PU Political Communication Planned Parenthood Action Fund Essay

You have been hired (hypothetically, of course) to analyze and make recommendations on the social media content of two social movements and/or nonprofit organizations on social media. Find two organizations and evaluate their associated websites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube accounts, etc. You don’t have to actually subscribe to these social movements, simply observe how they communicate via social media. I’ve listed a few options below or you can think of a group on your own. The only rule is that they must be political groups that protest or lobby for a political cause.

Once you have finished reviewing the social media footprint of two organizations, answer the following questions in a 2-4 page double-spaced essay.

  • What is the mission of the organization? In other words, why do they do what they do, and what are their goals?
  • Who is the target audience?
  • Describe the look and feel of their social media sites. Do they use infographics, videos, pictures, polls effectively?
  • How often do they post to social media accounts?
  • What is the tone of the postings? Positive, negative, serious, funny, angry, sad, joyful?
  • In your opinion, is their website user friendly and easy to access? Does the website include information that makes it clear what the group stands for?
  • In your opinion, is their content effective, engaging, and interactive?
  • Recommend any improvements. How can the organization get the audience more engaged? What is working, what is not working?
